Vindeln Municipality (Swedish: Vindelns kommun) is a special area in northern Sweden. It's like a local government district and is part of Västerbotten County. The main town, or "seat," where the local government offices are, is called Vindeln.
History of Vindeln Municipality
In 1971, Sweden changed how its local governments worked. Vindeln Municipality was not joined with any other area. However, its name was changed in 1969 from Degerfors Municipality to Vindeln Municipality. This was because there was already another Degerfors Municipality in Sweden. Every municipality needs a unique name.
Geography and Nature
The Vindel River flows through Vindeln Municipality. This river is the main branch of the Ume River and is where the municipality gets its name.
The municipality's coat of arms shows a salmon. This is because there are many salmon in the Vindel River.
