Viola (pronounced vy-OH-la) is a small village located in Mercer County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 869 people lived there. This was a small decrease from 955 people in 2010.

Where is Viola Located?
Viola is in the eastern part of Mercer County. It's where two main roads meet: U.S. Route 67 and Illinois Route 17.
Roads and Nearby Cities
US 67 goes right through Viola on 13th Street. If you go north on US 67, you'll reach Rock Island in about 22 miles. If you go south the same distance, you'll get to Monmouth.
Illinois Route 17 also passes through Viola on 17th Avenue. It crosses 13th Street in the middle of the village. Going west on IL 17 for about 8 miles takes you to Aledo, which is the main town of Mercer County. If you head east for about 7 miles, you'll arrive in New Windsor. Galesburg is about 27 miles to the southeast.
Land and Water
The village of Viola covers about 0.85 square miles (2.21 square kilometers) of land. A very small part, about 0.02 square miles (0.04 square kilometers), is water. Water from the village flows south into small streams that lead to Pope Creek. It also flows north into Skunk Creek. Both Pope Creek and Skunk Creek eventually flow into the Mississippi River.
