Professional Wrestling Journey
Starting Out (1991–1993)
Nelson Frazier Jr. began his wrestling journey using the ring name "Nelson Knight". He was part of a tag team called the "Harlem Knights". His partner was Bobby (Robert Horne), who was presented as his storyline brother. They wrestled in different places like the United States Wrestling Association (USWA) and the Pro Wrestling Federation (PWF). In 1992, they won the PWF Tag Team Championship twice. In July 1993, they signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).
Time in the World Wrestling Federation (1993–1996)
Becoming a Tag Team Champion (1993–1994)
When they joined the WWF, the Harlem Knights got a new gimmick (a character or role). Nelson became Mabel, and Bobby became Mo. They also got a rapping manager named Oscar. Their new team was called Men on a Mission. The WWF introduced them with short videos showing them as three African American men. They wanted to make positive changes in city neighborhoods. They wore purple and yellow outfits and started as good guys, known as faces.
At WrestleMania X, Men on a Mission beat the WWF Tag Team champions, The Quebecers. They won by countout, which means the opponents didn't get back into the ring in time. However, they did not win the championship belts that day. On March 29, 1994, they won the title at a live event, called a house show, in London, England. But the Quebecers won the title back just two days later in Sheffield, England.
In mid-1994, Mabel started wrestling more by himself. Because of his large size, he was seen as a special attraction. He competed in the 1994 King of the Ring tournament. He beat Pierre of the Quebecers but then lost to IRS in the next round. He also had a match against Jeff Jarrett at Summerslam, which Jarrett won.
Winning King of the Ring and Leaving (1995–1996)
In 1995, Men on a Mission lost a championship match against Smoking Gunns. After the match, Mabel and Mo attacked them. A few weeks later, they offered an apology and shook hands with Billy and Bart Gunn. But it was a trick! Mabel and Mo attacked them again. They also turned on their manager, Oscar, and became bad guys, known as heels.
Mabel changed his fun-loving personality to a tougher image. He got a big push (a boost in his career) as a singles wrestler. In June, he won the King of the Ring tournament. After this win, Mabel became known as King Mabel, and Mo became "Sir Mo", his manager. King Mabel even received a special championship belt. It was designed just for him and had "King of the Ring" engraved on it. This belt was unique because the WWF had never made a belt for the King of the Ring before or since. However, this belt was never shown on WWF television.
After his victory, King Mabel became a top villain in the company. He challenged WWF Champion Diesel at SummerSlam in August. Before SummerSlam, the WWF made Davey Boy Smith, a popular wrestler, turn against the fans. This made him the company's new top villain instead of Mabel. This happened on August 21, 1995, during Monday Night Raw. Smith attacked Diesel during a match and joined King Mabel and Sir Mo in beating him up. This attack was called the "Royal Plan," but the group didn't stay together.
Kevin Nash (Diesel) later said that Frazier's wrestling style was very powerful and sometimes led to other wrestlers getting hurt. This was a concern for the company.
Even though he was no longer the main villain, Frazier started a new big feud (rivalry) with The Undertaker. This started when Mabel helped Yokozuna attack The Undertaker. The company was not happy when Frazier injured another top star. The Undertaker came back wearing a mask and defeated King Mabel in a Casket match at In Your House 5: Seasons Beatings. After this match, Frazier's big push ended, and he left the company a few weeks later. His last matches included a quick loss to Diesel and another Casket match loss to The Undertaker.
Wrestling in Other Places (1995–1998)
After leaving the WWF, Frazier wrestled for the Puerto Rico-based World Wrestling Council (WWC) from 1995 to 1996. He had a rivalry with Carlos Colón. He won the Universal Heavyweight Championship and held it for a month. He also wrestled in Tennessee for the United States Wrestling Association. There, he won the USWA Heavyweight Championship in March 1996 and the North American Heavyweight Championship in February 1998. These were the top titles in those promotions at the time.
Returning to WWF (1998–2000)
Ministry of Darkness and Corporate Ministry (1998–1999)
On July 6, 1998, Mabel made a surprise return to the WWF for one night. He tried to challenge the new King of the Ring, Ken Shamrock, but lost. On January 24, 1999, Frazier returned full-time. He appeared at the pre-show for the Royal Rumble. During the event, he was taken by The Undertaker and his group, the Acolytes (Bradshaw and Faarooq) and Mideon.
The next night on RAW, he was reintroduced as Viscera. He became the enforcer (a strong bodyguard) for The Undertaker's group, the Ministry of Darkness. He adopted a gothic look with white contact lenses, a bleached mohawk, and a black bodysuit.
Hardcore Champion and Leaving (1999–2000)
The Ministry of Darkness group broke up in July 1999. Viscera then moved around the mid-card (the middle part of the wrestling show). He often teamed with his former Ministry member Mideon. He also became part of the growing hardcore division, where matches had very few rules.
On April 2, 2000, at WrestleMania 2000, he won the WWF Hardcore Championship. However, he lost it minutes later in the same Battle Royal-style match. He also had a rivalry with Mark Henry. In August 2000, he left the WWF.
Independent Wrestling (2000–2004)
After leaving the WWF, Frazier wrestled in other wrestling companies. He wrestled in the United Kingdom for a while. In 2003, he started working for Memphis Wrestling and had a rivalry with Jerry Lawler. On Valentine's Day 2004, he won a battle royal with 15 wrestlers.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2003)
In March 2003, Frazier, using the name Nelson Knight, made a surprise appearance at a weekly Total Nonstop Action Wrestling show. He was with Ron Killings. He appeared one more time the next week.
Second Return to WWE (2004–2008)
The World's Largest Love Machine (2004–2007)
Frazier, as Viscera, returned to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), which was the new name for the WWF. This happened in September 2004. He made a surprise attack on his former Ministry of Darkness leader, The Undertaker. He did this at the command of WWE Champion John "Bradshaw" Layfield.
After two weeks on the SmackDown! show, he moved to the Raw show. For his first three months on Raw, Viscera mostly wrestled on Raw's sister show Heat. He only appeared on Raw sometimes. His first big storyline on Raw started in April 2005. He joined Trish Stratus as part of her rivalry with Lita and Lita's husband, Kane.
After losing to Kane at Backlash, Viscera used his finishing move, the Big Splash, on Trish Stratus. He was angry because she kept making fun of him. This made him a good guy again, for the first time since 1995.
Viscera started wrestling in pajamas. He became very fond of Raw ring announcer Lilian Garcia. He tried different ways to get her attention every week. At Vengeance in June, Garcia finally showed interest. She even proposed to him in the ring! But he turned her down, leaving her crying.
At the Royal Rumble, Viscera competed in the Royal Rumble match. He was eliminated by Carlito and Chris Masters. At WrestleMania 22, Viscera won an 18-man battle royal. Viscera then teamed up with Val Venis to form a team called V–Squared. They wrestled together for almost nine months, mostly on Heat. They tried to win the World Tag Team Championship several times but never did.
When Venis was out of action with a real injury in April 2006, Viscera went back to wrestling by himself. He tried to get back together with Lilian Garcia. But Umaga interrupted his proposal and attacked him. Two weeks later, Garcia was accidentally knocked off the ring apron by Charlie Haas and hurt her wrist. This was made into a storyline where Haas and Viscera fought over Garcia. After Lillian said she just wanted to be friends, Haas seemed to poke Viscera in the eye. Viscera then pretended to accidentally slam Lillian. After this, both men laughed, and Viscera became a bad guy again. The team split up when Haas reunited with Shelton Benjamin.
Becoming Big Daddy V (2007–2008)
On June 17, 2007, Viscera was moved from the Raw show to ECW in a special draft. Three weeks later, he debuted on ECW. He was given a new character called Big Daddy V. He was a "hired muscle" working for Matt Striker. He helped Striker in his rivalry with The Boogeyman.
After dealing with The Boogeyman, Big Daddy V beat Tommy Dreamer in a match to become the number one challenger for the ECW Championship at No Mercy. He lost to CM Punk by disqualification when Striker interfered. He then had a rivalry with SmackDown's Kane. At Survivor Series, Big Daddy V was in a team match, but his team lost. At Armageddon, Big Daddy V and Mark Henry defeated CM Punk and Kane.
Big Daddy V was in the 2008 Royal Rumble but was eliminated by Triple H. His last appearance on a big pay-per-view event was in the SmackDown Elimination Chamber match at No Way Out, where he was the first wrestler eliminated. He wrestled his last WWE match on March 11, 2008, on an episode of ECW, losing to CM Punk. In the 2008 WWE Supplemental Draft, he was moved to the SmackDown show. Frazier left his WWE contract on August 8, 2008.
Later Career (2008–2013)
After leaving WWE, Frazier joined the National Wrestling Alliance as King V. On October 3, 2008, he defeated Rob Conway. The next night, King V won a handicap match against two opponents. On August 8, 2009, at Juggalo Championship Wrestling (JCW)'s 10th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos, Viscera defeated 2 Tuff Tony.
From this time, he also wrestled in Mexico, Canada, and Germany. On March 31, 2012, he defeated Shad Gaspard at a wrestling event in Georgetown, Guyana. In September 2012, Big Daddy V appeared for a Japanese company called Inoki Genome Federation. Frazier's last match, as Big Daddy V, was a win over René Duprée on Qatar Pro Wrestling's first tour on October 5, 2013.
All Japan Pro Wrestling (2010–2011)
Frazier wrestled for All Japan Pro Wrestling as Big Daddy Voodoo (later just Big Daddy). He held the All Asia Tag Team Champion title with TARU from April 29 to August 29, 2011. He was part of a wrestling group called the Voodoo Murders. He left All Japan Pro Wrestling in late 2011.
Personal Life
Nelson Frazier Jr. was married to Cassandra Frazier. He worked as a joiner (someone who makes wooden joints) before he started his wrestling career. Due to his weight, Frazier had high blood pressure and diabetes. His wife said he was planning to become healthier before he passed away. Doctors told him his blood pressure was too high and was affecting his type 2 diabetes. He responded by cutting salt and sugar from his diet. This helped him lose over 100 pounds, and his blood pressure dropped to a healthy level.
Death
On February 18, 2014, Nelson Frazier Jr. died from a heart attack. This was just four days after his 43rd birthday. He was cremated, and his wife divided his ashes into 500 small pendants. She gave these as gifts to his loved ones.
