Vitus Lake is a large lake located in Alaska, a state in the United States. It stretches about 23 kilometres (14 mi) long and 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) wide. This makes it a significant body of water in the region.

The lake was named after Vitus Bering. He was an explorer who led an important expedition to Alaska in 1741.

Vitus Lake is found at the southern edge of the Bering Glacier. This glacier is a huge, slow-moving river of ice. The lake's water flows out through the Seal River. This river then empties into the Gulf of Alaska.

The Legend of Vittie

Vitus Lake is also known for a local legend. Some people say it is home to a creature called Vittie. Vittie is a type of cryptid. A cryptid is an animal whose existence is not proven by science.

The name Vittie sounds a lot like Nessie. Nessie is another famous cryptid. Nessie is said to live in Loch Ness in Scotland. Just like Nessie, Vittie is part of the local folklore and stories.
