Vivek Ranadivé (born October 7, 1957) is an Indian-American businessman, engineer, and author. He is famous for starting successful technology companies. He also owns a professional basketball team, the Sacramento Kings. In 2022, he bought a baseball team, the Sacramento River Cats.

Early Life and Education

Vivek Ranadivé grew up in Mumbai, India. He was the youngest of three children. He went to the Bombay International School.

When he was 16, Ranadivé was accepted into MIT. However, in the 1970s, the Indian government did not help students financially to study abroad. Ranadivé managed to get the money he needed for his first quarter of tuition.

After getting his degrees in electrical engineering from MIT, he earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1983. While at MIT, he started his first company, which helped businesses with computers. He also worked in management and engineering roles at other companies.

Starting New Companies

Vivek Ranadivé has started several important technology companies.

Teknekron Software Systems

In 1985, Ranadivé started Teknekron Software Systems. This company received $250,000 to help it get started.

TIBCO Software

In 1997, Ranadivé founded TIBCO Software Inc. This company creates special software that helps businesses understand information quickly. It received funding from big companies like Cisco and Reuters.

Bow Capital

In 2016, Ranadivé started Bow Capital. This company invests in new startup businesses. It works with the University of California Regents. Some of the companies they have invested in include Skillit, Eversight, Workramp, Jerry.ai, and Flex.

Golden State Warriors

In 2010, Ranadivé became a co-owner of the Golden State Warriors. This made him the first person of Indian descent to co-own an NBA team.

Sacramento Kings

On March 21, 2013, it was announced that Ranadivé wanted to buy the Sacramento Kings. To do this, he had to sell his share of the Golden State Warriors.

On May 16, 2013, his group reached an agreement to buy 65% of the Kings. The NBA approved the sale on May 28, 2013. Ranadivé became the co-owner and chairman of the Sacramento Kings.

Anjali Ranadivé's Achievements

His daughter, Anjali, is an R&B singer-songwriter. She uses the stage name "Nani." She released her first song, "We Turn Up," in April 2014. Her second song, "Nobody," featured the artist Tyga.

Anjali also graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in marine science. She started a non-profit organization called Jaws & Paws. This group helps spread awareness about protecting sharks, polar bears, and tigers. In October 2015, she received an award for her work in ocean leadership. She also participated in the 2022 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

Coaching a Basketball Team

Ranadivé coached his daughter's 12-and-under girls' basketball team. He had never played basketball himself until he was in his 40s.
