Viviana Guzmán was born on August 20, 1964, in Chile. She is a very talented flutist, composer, dancer, and poet. Viviana performs in over 80 concerts every year and has played her flute in 122 different countries! The New York Times newspaper has called her "an imaginative artist." People also say she might be the first flutist since her teacher, Jean-Pierre Rampal, to have such a successful solo career. She also helps teach young musicians with the Peninsula Youth Orchestra and at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Early Life and Musical Journey
Viviana Guzmán was born in Concepcion, Chile. She moved to the United States when she was a child for medical reasons. Now, she lives near San Francisco, California. By the time she was 15, Viviana was already playing as a soloist with orchestras. She had the chance to study with famous flutists like Jean-Pierre Rampal, James Galway, and Julius Baker. She even appeared on a TV special with John Denver!
Viviana went to Rice University and later to the Juilliard School, which is a very famous music school. She first thought about studying medicine, but then decided to make music her career. She performed her first concert in New York City at the Carnegie Hall Recital Hall, a very important place for musicians.
Viviana won many awards and competitions early in her career. These included the Young Artists Auditions of Artists International and the New York Flute Club Competition. She also received many scholarships and awards, showing how talented she was.

As an orchestra musician, she played with the Texas Opera Theatre Orchestra and for Mikhail Baryshnikov's dance project. She also played in the Broadway musical "Sunset Boulevard" with Glenn Close. She even accompanied the famous singer Plácido Domingo with the Houston Grand Opera.
