Vizcachas River facts for kids
The Vizcachas River is a cool river found in the southern part of Argentina. It flows through the Santa Cruz area, which is part of the amazing Patagonia region.
This river starts high up in the Sierra de los Baguales mountains. It's formed when several smaller streams join together. From there, the Vizcachas River flows down from a flat area called the Vizcachas Plain. It travels south until it reaches a low, wet area, like a marsh or swamp.
River's Journey and Where it Ends
At a specific point, around the 51° S parallel (which is an imaginary line on the map), the Vizcachas River makes a sharp turn and heads west. It then reaches the border with Chile and follows it for a bit before crossing into Chile.
The Vizcachas River doesn't just flow by itself! It joins up with two other water bodies: the Zanja Honda Stream and the Guillermo River. All three of these then flow into a bigger river called the Serrano River. The Serrano River is the final stop for these waters, as it eventually empties into the huge Pacific Ocean. So, the Vizcachas River's water travels all the way from the mountains to the ocean!
