Vladimir Valeryevich Bure (Russian: Владимир Валерьевич Буре) was a famous swimmer from Russia. He was born on December 4, 1950, and passed away on September 3, 2024. Vladimir was known for his amazing freestyle swimming skills. Later in his life, he became a fitness coach for a professional hockey team, the New Jersey Devils. He was also the father of two well-known NHL hockey players, Pavel and Valeri Bure.

Swimming Achievements

Vladimir Bure was a very successful swimmer for the Soviet Union. He competed in three Olympic Games in 1968, 1972, and 1976. He won four Olympic medals during his career. One medal was for an individual race, and three were for team relay events.

Besides the Olympics, Vladimir also won many other awards. He was a two-time European champion. He also won 17 titles as a Soviet champion in swimming. At the World Championships, he earned two silver medals in 1973 and 1975.

After he stopped competing, Vladimir became a swimming coach. He worked at the Armed Forces Society from 1979 to 1985. He then became a Vice President at the Exsport club, where he helped manage eight different sports.

Vladimir married Tatiana Bure. They had two sons, Pavel and Valeri, who were both born in Moscow. Both of his sons grew up to become professional hockey players.

Coaching in North America

In 1991, Vladimir Bure and his sons, Pavel and Valeri, moved to North America. They first lived in Los Angeles. Vladimir continued to train and coach his sons in hockey and physical fitness.

Later, Vladimir joined his son Pavel at the Vancouver Canucks hockey team. He worked there for four seasons, from 1994 to 1998, as a fitness consultant. In 1999, he moved to the New Jersey Devils to be their fitness consultant.

Vladimir had great success with the New Jersey Devils. He helped the team win the Stanley Cup twice! They won in 2000 and again in 2003. His name was even engraved on the Stanley Cup in 2003, which is a huge honor in hockey.

Remembering Vladimir Bure

Vladimir Bure passed away on September 3, 2024, at the age of 73. He will be remembered as a talented swimmer and a dedicated fitness coach.
