Vladimir Radmanović (born on November 19, 1980) is a Serbian former professional basketball player. He played for many teams during his career.

In his home country, Serbia, he played for Crvena zvezda and FMP. In the National Basketball Association (NBA), he was part of teams like the Seattle SuperSonics, Los Angeles Clippers, and Los Angeles Lakers. He also played for the Charlotte Bobcats, Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, and Chicago Bulls.

Radmanović also played for his country's national team. He famously helped them win a gold medal at the 2002 FIBA World Championship.

Early Life and Basketball Beginnings

Vladimir Radmanović was born in Trebinje, a city in what was then Yugoslavia. His family is originally from Zadar in Croatia. His father was a colonel in the Yugoslav army. Because of his father's job, Vladimir grew up in many different places.

He started his basketball journey in Yugoslavia. He played for KK Crvena zvezda and KK FMP. In 1999, he even played in the Nike Hoop Summit in Florida. This was a special event for young basketball stars. He joined the NBA in 2001.

Playing in the NBA

Seattle SuperSonics Years

The Seattle SuperSonics picked Radmanović as the 12th player in the 2001 NBA draft. He quickly became an important player for the team. In the 2003–04 season, he was considered for the NBA's Most Improved Player Award. He scored about 12 points and grabbed 5.3 rebounds per game. He often came off the bench as a "sixth man," meaning he was one of the first players to substitute into the game.

Radmanović was also known for his excellent three-point shooting. He made about 40% of his three-point shots. This was quite special for a tall player like him back then. He helped the Sonics win their first playoff series in the 2004–05 season. He once made 8 three-pointers in a single game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Fans nicknamed him "Broadway Joe" because he looked like a famous football player.

Moving to Los Angeles Clippers

In 2006, Radmanović was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. He had wanted to be a starter, and this move gave him more playing time. With the Clippers, his performance improved even more. He averaged 10.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. He also shot very well from the three-point line.

Time with the Los Angeles Lakers

On July 13, 2006, Radmanović signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was promised a starting spot on the team. Famous Lakers players like Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson helped convince him to join. They believed his shooting skills would be a great fit for the Lakers' style of play. His coach, Phil Jackson, sometimes called him "space cadet" because he would take adventurous three-point shots. He was also known as "Vlad Rad."

In 2007, Radmanović had a shoulder injury. He first said he fell on ice, but later admitted he hurt himself while snowboarding. His contract did not allow him to do risky activities like snowboarding. He was fined $500,000 for not being truthful about how he got injured.

Later NBA Teams

Radmanović continued his NBA career with several other teams.

  • Charlotte Bobcats: In 2009, he was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats. He played both small forward and power forward positions.
  • Golden State Warriors: Later in 2009, he moved to the Golden State Warriors.
  • Atlanta Hawks: In 2011, he signed with the Atlanta Hawks. In his first game with them, he scored 17 points.
  • Chicago Bulls: In 2012, Radmanović joined the Chicago Bulls. His last NBA game was in the playoffs in May 2013. The Bulls lost to the Miami Heat in that series.

In October 2013, after 12 seasons in the NBA, Vladimir Radmanović announced his retirement from basketball. He played in 737 regular season games. He averaged 8.0 points per game and shot 37.8% from three-point range.

International Basketball Career

Vladimir Radmanović also played for the national team of Serbia and Montenegro. He played in three major tournaments.

2002 FIBA World Championship

Radmanović was part of the team that won the gold at the 2002 FIBA World Championship in Indianapolis. He didn't play much in this tournament. During a semifinal game, his coach, Svetislav Pešić, got upset with him for eating a banana during a team talk. Radmanović watched the rest of that game from the stands. Even though he didn't play in the final, his team won the gold medal.

2004 Olympic Games

Radmanović played in the 2004 Olympic tournament in Athens. He had a great first game, scoring 21 points against Argentina. However, his team lost that game by just one point. Serbia and Montenegro did not do well in the tournament overall. They finished in 11th place, which was their country's worst Olympic basketball result.

2005 EuroBasket

Radmanović also played in the 2005 EuroBasket tournament. This was his last international tournament. His team lost a close game to France and was knocked out of the competition. After the tournament, the coach said some players were not taking the national team seriously enough.
