Volkan Demirel (born 27 October 1981) is a famous Turkish football coach and former international goalkeeper. He is currently the head coach of Bodrum. For many years, he was the main goalkeeper for both Fenerbahçe and the Turkey national team.

Volkan Demirel's Club Journey
Volkan Demirel was born in Fatih, Istanbul. He started his football career at age 18, joining Kartalspor in 1999. By the next year, he became their main goalkeeper. He played in 51 matches for Kartalspor over two seasons. This strong performance led to his transfer to Fenerbahçe in 2002.
Becoming a Top Goalkeeper at Fenerbahçe
When Volkan joined Fenerbahçe, he was a backup goalkeeper. He made his first appearance for the club in April 2003. After the main goalkeeper left, Volkan played in 19 league matches. He helped Fenerbahçe win the 2003–04 Süper Lig title.
He won another Süper Lig title the next season. Volkan became the first-choice goalkeeper for Fenerbahçe in the 2006–07 season. He played a key role in the team's success.
Champions League Heroics
In the 2007–08 UEFA Champions League, Volkan Demirel helped Fenerbahçe make history. They reached the quarter-finals for the first time ever. In a thrilling match against Sevilla, Volkan saved three penalties in a shootout. This amazing effort allowed his team to move forward in the competition. Fenerbahçe then faced Chelsea but lost closely. After this, Volkan became the undisputed starting goalkeeper for Fenerbahçe. He signed a new four-year contract in 2009.
Volkan Demirel's International Career
Volkan Demirel also played for the Turkish national teams. He was part of the Turkey U-20 squad in 2001. He then played for the Turkey U21 national team from 2001 to 2003. His strong performances led to his first call-up to the senior Turkey national team in 2004. He made his debut in a friendly match against Belgium.
Playing in UEFA Euro 2008
Volkan Demirel was the starting goalkeeper for Turkey at the UEFA Euro 2008 championships. This was a historic tournament for Turkey, as they reached the semi-finals for the first time. Volkan played in all three group stage matches. However, he received a red card in the match against the Czech Republic. This meant he was suspended for two matches.
Leaving the National Team
In 2014, Volkan Demirel decided to leave the Turkey national team. This happened before a qualifying match for UEFA Euro 2016. After his departure, Volkan Babacan took over as the main goalkeeper for the UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifiers.
Volkan Demirel's Coaching Career
After a long playing career, Volkan Demirel became a coach. On 2 September 2019, Fenerbahçe announced that he had retired as a player. He then started working as an assistant coach for the team. He worked under several different head coaches during this time.
In July 2021, he announced that he was leaving his assistant coaching role at Fenerbahçe.
Coaching Fatih Karagümrük
On 17 December 2021, Volkan Demirel signed a contract to become the manager of Fatih Karagümrük. His first match as a manager was a 1–0 away win.
Coaching Hatayspor
On 21 September 2022, Demirel signed with Hatayspor as their manager. He coached the team for almost two years.
Volkan Demirel's Personal Life
Volkan Demirel is married to Zeynep Sever, who was formerly Miss Belgium. They have two daughters together. Their first daughter, Yade, was born in February 2014. Their second daughter, Yeda, was born in September 2017.
