Vsevolod Zinoviiovych Nestaiko (Ukrainian: Всеволод Зіновійович Нестайко; born January 30, 1930 – died August 16, 2014) was a very famous Ukrainian writer. He wrote many wonderful books especially for children. In Ukraine, he is known as one of the most loved and well-known authors of children's stories.

About Vsevolod Nestaiko
Vsevolod Nestaiko's life began in Berdychiv, Ukraine. His parents had different roles during a big war. His father was a soldier, and his mother was a teacher and a nurse. Sadly, his father passed away when Vsevolod was young.
To find safety and food, Vsevolod and his mother moved to the city of Kyiv. He lived and worked in Kyiv for the rest of his life.
His Education and Early Career
In 1947, Vsevolod Nestaiko started studying at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. He studied Philology, which is the study of language and literature. He finished his studies in 1952.
After university, he started working for different magazines. These included "Dnipro," "Periwinkle," and "Youth." From 1956 to 1987, he was an important editor. He worked for a children's literature magazine called "Rainbow."
His First Books and Popular Stories
Vsevolod Nestaiko's very first book was called "Shurka & Shurko." It was published in 1956. From that time until he passed away, he wrote about 30 stories. These included fairy tales, novels, and plays.
His books became very popular. They have been translated into many different languages. People around the world can read his stories in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, and many other languages.
Famous Works and Awards
Some of Vsevolod Nestaiko's stories were made into movies. The movie based on his book Toreadors from Vasyukivka won big awards. It received a Grand-prix at a festival in Munich in 1968. It also won the main prize in Sydney in 1969.
Another movie, The Fraud ”F”, also won awards. It was honored at a film festival in Kyiv in 1984. It also won an award at the Gabrovo Film Festival in Bulgaria in 1985.
Vsevolod Nestaiko's books are so important that they are part of school lessons in Ukraine. This means many children in Ukraine grow up reading his wonderful stories.
Special Recognition
In 2010, the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, gave him a special award. It was called the order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of fifth class. This award recognized his great contributions.
On January 30, 2015, Google celebrated his 85th birthday. They made a special picture called a Google Doodle for him. This showed how important and loved he was around the world.
