Vyond is a cool online tool that helps people make animated videos. It used to be called GoAnimate until 2018. Alvin Hung created it in 2007. It's like a special program on the internet that lets you create cartoons and animated clips easily. The company that makes Vyond is called GoAnimate, Inc., and it's based in San Mateo, California, in the United States.

How Vyond Started and Grew

Vyond began as GoAnimate in 2007. The first version of GoAnimate went live in the middle of 2008.

Early Animation Tools

In May 2009, a special program called DomoAnimate was launched. This program let users create animations based on the cartoon character Domo. However, DomoAnimate closed down on September 15, 2014. Its website then sent users to the GoAnimate for Schools website.

In March 2011, GoAnimate joined with other video makers like Stupeflix and Xtranormal. They became founding partners of YouTube Create. This was a set of apps available for people who made videos on YouTube. This partnership helped GoAnimate become more popular. YouTube Create later added more apps but was eventually stopped in early 2013.

Expanding to Schools and Businesses

A U.S. office for GoAnimate opened in San Francisco in June 2011. In late August 2011, GoAnimate for Schools was launched for everyone. This was a safer version of GoAnimate for schools. It had special features for privacy, security, and managing groups of students. In October 2011, some special characters for the 2012 U.S. Election became very popular.

On March 1, 2012, GoAnimate launched the "Business Friendly Theme." This was the first of four special themes for businesses. In April 2012, they started offering paid plans for businesses. These plans let users download videos in high quality (1080p). They could also remove or change the GoAnimate logo. These business plans made GoAnimate even more popular.

By July 2013, people had created over ten million videos using the GoAnimate platform!

New Look and Focus

On September 16, 2013, GoAnimate changed its logo. They removed the exclamation mark from it. On the same day, the website got a new look and was relaunched. They also removed GoBucks and GoPoints, which were like virtual money and points on the site.

At the end of 2013, GoAnimate added "paper cutout" designs from a company called Common Craft. These became a new visual style. In April 2014, they launched business plans for multiple users. These plans included tools for managing groups and working together. Around this time, GoAnimate also released another business theme called "Whiteboard Animation." They also made it possible to publish videos directly to Lectora, a program for creating online courses.

By the end of 2014, GoAnimate had over 10,000 different items to use in videos. This included new characters like Supreme Court justices. In 2015, an office was opened in Taiwan. This was GoAnimate's third location, after Hong Kong and San Francisco.

In May 2015, GoAnimate said they planned to grow even more. During the summer of 2015, they removed social features like favorites, comments, and messages. This was so GoAnimate could focus more on helping businesses and marketing.

Moving to New Technology

On October 19, 2015, GoAnimate announced a big change. They would switch from using Adobe Flash to HTML5 for animation. HTML5 allows videos to work on mobile devices. Older animation styles like Lil' Peepz, Comedy World, Anime, Stick Figure, and Cartoon Classics were removed. This was because they didn't work with HTML5. However, GoAnimate for Schools kept Adobe Flash and these older styles until July 26, 2016.

On November 25, 2015, GoAnimate changed its free plan. It became a trial plan that lasted 14 days. After the trial, users could not create or edit videos unless they bought a paid plan. By the end of 2015, the company had over 50 employees.

Becoming Vyond

On May 6, 2018, the GoAnimate platform was renamed Vyond. The company announced this change at an event in San Diego. The company that develops Vyond is still called "GoAnimate, Inc."

On May 6, 2019, Vyond announced that the old video maker would be removed in December 2019. This was because support for Adobe Flash was ending on December 31, 2020. All user accounts were automatically switched to Vyond Studio on August 14, 2019.

On May 3, 2023, Vyond announced a new feature called Vyond Go. This feature uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create videos. Users can type in what they want, similar to ChatGPT, and Vyond Go will make a video. The first public test version was released on June 28, 2023. All users can try it, but they can only use it 3 times every 24 hours.

What Vyond Offers

Vyond gives its users a huge collection of pre-made animated items. These include characters, actions, ready-made templates, props, text boxes, music, and sound effects. You can control these items using a "drag and drop" system. This means you click on an item and drag it where you want it to go.

Creating Your Videos

Users can also add their own things, like audio files, pictures, or video clips. There's also a tool to create cool camera movements, like zooming in or panning across the screen.

You can record voices or narration directly into Vyond. You can also upload audio files. Characters can even automatically move their mouths to match the words you give them! This is called "lip-syncing." You can also use audio as a voiceover for your video. When you finish your video, you can download it as an MP4 file, a GIF, or a video presentation.

Vyond for Schools

There was also a special version of Vyond called GoAnimate for Schools. On April 10, 2018, Vyond announced that GoAnimate for Schools would close on June 30, 2019. On that same day, GoAnimate removed its 14-day free trial for the schools' site. Buying new subscriptions or renewing old ones for Goanimate4schools.com stopped on May 6, 2018. The service officially ended on June 30, 2019.

Vyond Go and AI

Vyond also offers Vyond Go, which uses artificial intelligence. This feature automatically creates videos based on what users type in. Vyond Go is the first AI-based feature in video-making platforms. It is currently in a testing phase, so users can only make 3 videos every 24 hours.
