About Waalre
Waalre is often called the Groenfontein, which means "Green Fountain." This name comes from the town's policy of planting many different kinds of trees along its streets. It is known as one of the wealthier areas in the Netherlands. In 2010, a study found Waalre to be the 7th best Dutch municipality to live in.
The municipality is surrounded by forests, fields, and lakes. The city of Eindhoven is nearby, just across the A67 motorway. The main towns within the Waalre municipality are Aalst and Waalre itself. The local language spoken here is Kempenlands, which is a dialect very similar to everyday Dutch.
Waalre Town Council
The town council is a group of people elected by the citizens to make decisions for the municipality. They help manage the town and its services. The current council was chosen in the 2022 local elections.
