Wairuna is a special rural area, or "locality," located in the Tablelands Region of Queensland, Australia. It's a very quiet place, as the latest count in 2021 showed that it has "no people or a very low population." This means it's mostly natural land, not a town or city where many people live.
What Makes Wairuna Special?
Wairuna is unique because almost all of it is a protected area. This means the land is kept safe to preserve its natural beauty, plants, and animals. It's like a giant natural park!
Wairuna's Natural Parks
Most of Wairuna is part of the amazing Girringun National Park. This park is known for its beautiful landscapes and important wildlife. A small part of Wairuna, in its western corner, is also part of the Girringun Conservation Park. There are also two smaller areas in the west and north-west that are called Girringun Resources Reserve. These different types of protected areas help keep the environment safe.
Wairuna's History
Even though Wairuna doesn't have many people living there now, it has some interesting history. It has a special "heritage listing," which means certain sites are recognized as important historical places.
- Wairuna Homestead: One of these important sites is the Wairuna Homestead, located on Wairuna Road. A homestead is an old farm or ranch house, and this one is considered a valuable part of the area's past.
