The Walensee, also known as Lake Walen, is a beautiful lake in eastern Switzerland. It's located in two different areas called cantons: St. Gallen and Glarus. Many towns and villages are found along its shores, including Walenstadt, Weesen, Quinten, Quarten, and Murg.

Where is Walensee?

Walensee is nestled in the eastern part of Switzerland. It stretches across the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus. This means parts of the lake belong to each of these regions. You can find several charming towns and villages right by the lake, such as Walenstadt, Weesen, Quinten, Quarten, and Murg.

Rivers and the Island

Three main rivers flow into Walensee: the Seez, the Murgbach, and the Linth. The Linth River is quite important because it flows out of Walensee and continues its journey all the way to Lake Zurich.

The Walensee has only one island. It is called the Schnittlauchinsel. You can find this small island at the eastern end of the lake.

Mountains Around the Lake

On the north side of Walensee, you'll see the impressive Churfirsten mountain range. These mountains rise very steeply from the lake's surface. The lake is about 419 meters (1,375 feet) above sea level. The Churfirsten peaks reach up to 2,306 meters (7,566 feet) above sea level. This creates a dramatic and beautiful landscape around the lake.
