Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is a fun animated comedy film from the United Kingdom. It was made by Aardman Animations for the BBC and Netflix. This movie is the sixth adventure in the Wallace & Gromit series. It is also the second full-length film, following The Curse of the Were-Rabbit from 2005.

The film was directed by Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. Park also wrote the story with Mark Burton. In this movie, Wallace's newest invention gets taken over by the sneaky penguin, Feathers McGraw. This is the first time Feathers McGraw has appeared since The Wrong Trousers in 1993. The main voices include Ben Whitehead as Wallace, along with Peter Kay, Lauren Patel, and Reece Shearsmith.

Making a full-length Wallace & Gromit film was a big decision for Nick Park. He had some challenges with a previous movie, which made him hesitant for a while. Vengeance Most Fowl was first planned as a shorter film. But it grew into a full movie. The music was created by Lorne Balfe and the series' usual composer, Julian Nott.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl was shown for the first time at the American Film Institute on October 27, 2024. It was shown on BBC One in the UK on December 25, 2024. People around the world could watch it on Netflix starting January 3, 2025. The film was very popular, becoming the BBC's most-watched scripted show since 2002. Critics loved it, giving it a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also won a BAFTA Award for Best Children's & Family Film.

What Happens in the Story

Wallace, a clever inventor, creates a robot garden gnome named Norbot. He starts a business renting Norbot out to help in gardens. Gromit, Wallace's loyal dog, feels a bit left out. He also worries that Wallace relies too much on his inventions. Norbot's recharging is very loud, so Gromit plugs it into a computer in their basement.

Feathers McGraw's Plan

The sneaky criminal penguin, Feathers McGraw, hears about Norbot on TV. He hacks into a computer and changes Norbot's programming. Now, Norbot works for Feathers and starts making many more robot gnomes. Feathers plans to use these gnomes to get revenge on Wallace and Gromit.

The gnomes begin stealing different items from homes around the city. Chief Inspector Albert Mackintosh and his new helper, PC Mukherjee, think Wallace is responsible. They take away Wallace's inventions, but they do not find the gnomes.

Gromit's Investigation

Gromit gets Wallace's tracking device back from the police station. He uses it to follow the gnomes to a zoo where Feathers is in prison. Gromit discovers that the gnomes used the stolen items to build a submarine for Feathers. This submarine helps Feathers escape through the sewers.

Feathers sees Gromit hiding in a tree. He makes Norbot cut the branch, and Gromit falls into an animal area. When Norbot hits the ground, its settings reset.

The Diamond Heist

Gromit goes to the museum, where a famous Blue Diamond is being put back on display. But Inspector Mackintosh finds that the real diamond has been replaced with a turnip! Feathers had hidden the real diamond in Wallace's house before he was caught.

Wallace and Gromit are then captured by the gnomes. Feathers gets the diamond and locks the duo in a wardrobe.

The Chase and Ending

Wallace and Gromit use a leaf blower to escape with Norbot. They chase Feathers down a canal on narrowboats. Mackintosh and Mukherjee follow them on a bicycle. Wallace invents a machine that shoots boots at the gnomes, which resets them.

Gromit jumps onto Feathers' narrowboat. Feathers sees that the police have blocked the canal. He steers his boat off an aqueduct. The boat hangs over the edge. Wallace convinces Gromit to give the bag with the diamond to Feathers. Feathers jumps off the boat, which then falls. Norbot and the other gnomes rescue Gromit.

Feathers escapes to Yorkshire on a train. But he finds out that Gromit gave him a turnip instead of the real diamond. Mackintosh praises Mukherjee for trusting her feelings and retires. He gives his job to her. Wallace goes back to inventing. He realizes that machines cannot replace the special touch of people. Gromit gains new respect for Norbot.

Who Are the Voices?

  • Ben Whitehead as Wallace. He is the clever inventor and Gromit's owner. This was Whitehead's first full movie as Wallace. He took over the role after Peter Sallis retired in 2010 and passed away in 2017. Whitehead had voiced Wallace in video games and commercials since 2008.
  • Peter Kay as Chief Inspector Albert Mackintosh. He was a police constable and is now a chief inspector. Kay played this role before in Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
  • Reece Shearsmith as Norbot. This is Wallace's newest invention. Norbot is designed to do jobs around the house. But Feathers McGraw changes its personality.
    • Shearsmith also voices Norbot's robot gnome friends. They work for Feathers McGraw.
  • Lauren Patel as PC Mukherjee. She is Chief Inspector Albert Mackintosh's brave and young helper.
  • Diane Morgan as Onya Doorstep. She is a news reporter for Up North News.
  • Muzz Khan as Anton Deck. He is a newsreader for Up North News. His name is a funny reference to the TV duo, Ant & Dec.
  • The Farmer from the Wallace & Gromit spin-off show Shaun the Sheep makes a quick appearance. He is voiced by John Sparkes.
  • Adjoa Andoh and Lenny Henry have small roles as a judge and Mr. Convenience.
  • TV presenter and radio DJ Roman Kemp also appears briefly as part of an angry crowd.

How the Film Was Made

Making a full-length Wallace & Gromit film was a big decision for Nick Park. He had some difficulties working with another company, DreamWorks Animation, during the making of The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005). There were many notes and requests to change the story to appeal more to American children. This made him not want to direct another feature film for many years.

A new Wallace & Gromit film was announced in January 2022. Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham were named as directors. Mark Burton was the screenwriter. The film was first planned as another 30-minute short. But it grew into a full-length movie.

The factory that made the special modelling clay used by Aardman closed in March 2023. Aardman bought enough clay to finish the film. The studio later found a new supplier for their clay.

The movie's title, Vengeance Most Fowl, was announced on June 6, 2024. It was also revealed that Feathers McGraw, the villain from The Wrong Trousers (1993), would return.

The Music in the Film

The music for the film was created by Lorne Balfe and the series' usual composer, Julian Nott. Nott composed the main themes. Balfe had also helped with music for Nott's score in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005).

In the film, Gromit listens to Eric Coates' By the Sleepy Lagoon before Norbot interrupts him. The song "Born Free" by Matt Monro is also briefly heard. Feathers McGraw plays it during his escape. At one point, McGraw plays J.S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor on an organ in his submarine. This is a nod to the song's use in the 1954 movie 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

When the Film Was Released

Vengeance Most Fowl was shown for the first time around the world on October 27, 2024. This was at the closing day of the AFI Fest in Hollywood, Los Angeles. It had a limited showing in movie theaters starting December 18, 2024.

The film was broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC One on December 25, 2024. It was released outside of the UK on Netflix on January 3, 2025. To promote the film, the BBC also created three special Wallace & Gromit-themed short videos for BBC One. These were shown during the Christmas season.

Vengeance Most Fowl was watched by 9.38 million BBC One viewers on Christmas Day. It was the second-most-watched broadcast in the UK since 2022. After 28 days of catch-up viewing, that number grew to 21.6 million. This made it the BBC's most-watched scripted show since 2002. Nick Park has said that Vengeance Most Fowl will not be the last Wallace & Gromit film. He mentioned that there are always new ideas to explore.
