Walnut Creek was first planned out in 1826. It was originally called New Carlisle. However, when a post office was opened in 1841, the name was changed to Walnut Creek.

Starting in the 1990s, local business leaders decided to give Walnut Creek a special look. They designed the town to have an "American-Victorian" theme. This style often includes lots of decoration, which is quite different from the simple style of the Amish community nearby.

Many businesses in Walnut Creek are made for visitors. They often have cozy "resting places" like porches with rocking chairs. This design helps people feel relaxed and like they have plenty of time to enjoy their visit. The town's main shopping area is easy to walk around. It has wide sidewalks connecting different shops, which adds to the calm, slow-paced feeling.

Geography and Location

Walnut Creek is located in the eastern part of Holmes County. It sits on top of a ridge that is about 200 feet high. To the north is Goose Creek, and to the south is Walnut Creek. All the water in this area eventually flows into the Tuscarawas River.
