The Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum is a fun and interesting museum in Walthamstow, London. It's located in a special building called the Low Hall Pumping Station. This building is over 100 years old! It was built in 1885 to pump sewage for the city. Today, it's a Grade II listed building, which means it's protected because of its historical importance.
The museum is all about amazing inventions in transportation that happened in the local area of Waltham Forest. You can learn about the very first British motorcar and the first all-British airplane, which took its first flight from nearby Walthamstow Marshes.
In 2025, the museum joined with the Markfield Beam Engine and Museum to create a new organization called the Heritage and Communities Trust.

What Can You See at the Museum?
The museum is packed with cool vehicles and machines from the past. It's a great place to see how transportation has changed over the years.
Amazing Vehicles on Display
Inside the museum, you can find many exciting things, including:
- Famous Red Buses: See a real AEC Routemaster bus, the classic double-decker bus of London.
- Powerful Steam Engines: Look at a pair of giant steam engines made by Marshall. These engines are so important they are also Grade II listed.
- Classic Fire Engines: The museum has several old fire engines that have even appeared in movies and TV shows.
A Famous Tube Train
One of the most popular attractions is a real London Underground 1967 Stock train carriage from the Victoria line. This isn't just any old train! The Victoria line was the world's first fully automatic underground railway, which was a huge step in technology.
This decommissioned (meaning it's no longer used for public transport) carriage is now used for many things. It has been a set for filming movies, a stage for concerts, and even a unique place for people to have dinner.
