Wapama Falls is an amazing waterfall found in Yosemite National Park in California, USA. It's one of two big waterfalls on the northern side of Hetch Hetchy Valley. This waterfall flows almost all year long!
Sometimes, when there's a lot of water, the falls can even cover the bridge at its base. This makes it impossible to walk across! Wapama Falls gets its water from Lake Vernon, which is a few miles north.
Discovering Wapama Falls
Wapama Falls is a very tall waterfall, dropping almost 1,100 feet (about 335 meters). That's taller than a 100-story building! Like Yosemite Falls, it has three main parts.
The Three Sections of the Falls
The top part of Wapama Falls is a straight drop of about 300 feet (91 meters). After this, the water rushes down a steep, rocky area for about 600 feet (183 meters). This part is like a series of smaller waterfalls and rapids.
You can't see all of these middle cascades from the main trail. To see them all, you would need to look from across the valley, high up on Kolana Rock. The very bottom part of the waterfall drops about 200 feet (61 meters). When there's a lot of water, it shoots out from the rocks as it falls.
Visiting Wapama Falls
You can visit Wapama Falls by taking a hike! The trail starts from the O'Shaughnessy Dam. It's about a 2.5-mile (4-kilometer) walk along the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir Trail to reach the falls. It's a great way to see this natural wonder up close.
