The War in the Pacific National Historical Park is a special place in Guam, a territory of the United States. It was created in 1978 to remember and honor everyone who took part in the Pacific Theater during World War II. This park is unique because it celebrates the bravery and sacrifices of all nations involved in that part of the war.

Guam's Role in World War II

The island of Guam played an important part in World War II. In 1941, Japanese forces captured Guam. Three years later, in 1944, American forces liberated the island. This park helps us remember these key events.

What You Can See at the Park

The park includes many different sites across Guam. These places were once real battlefields. You can see old gun emplacements, which are places where large guns were set up. There are also trenches, which are long, narrow ditches dug for protection. You might also find caves and other historic structures that were part of the war.

Nations Involved in the Pacific War

Many countries were involved in the War in the Pacific. These included the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada, Mexico, China, France, Great Britain, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and the Soviet Union. The park honors the people from all these nations.

The Park on a Coin

The War in the Pacific National Historical Park was even featured on a special coin! In 2019, it appeared on the Washington Quarter. This was part of a series called the America the Beautiful Quarters Series, which highlights national parks and sites across the United States.
