It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of Birchdale Township. You can find Ward Springs along State Highway 28, close to Todd County Roads 2 and 19. Some nearby towns are Grey Eagle, Melrose, and Sauk Centre.

The Story of Ward Springs

Ward Springs has an interesting past! It wasn't always called Ward Springs. This community was first known as Birch Lake City.

How Ward Springs Got Its Name

The name "Ward Springs" comes from the people who founded the community. Their names were J. W. Ward and Martha J. Ward. They helped start this place, and so it was named after them.

The Old Post Office

A post office was opened in the community way back in 1882. It was first called the Birch Lake post office. Later, in 1909, its name was changed to Ward Springs, just like the community. This post office served the area for many years before it finally closed in 1959.
