AIATSIS N25

Warray (also spelled Waray) was an Aboriginal language from Australia. It was spoken by people living near the Adelaide River in the Northern Territory. Sadly, the Warray language became extinct around the year 2000. This means there are no longer any native speakers of Warray.

Some people believe that Wulwulam was a different way of speaking Warray, like a dialect. It's also thought that Ngorrkkowo might have been another name for Wulwulam.

What Was the Warray Language?

Warray was part of a larger group of languages called Gunwinyguan languages. These languages are found in the northern parts of Australia. Learning about languages like Warray helps us understand the rich history and culture of Aboriginal Australians.
