What's in a Name?
Warwood got its name from a company called the Warwood Tool Company. This company was started in 1854 by Henry Warwood. He was from a nearby town called Martins Ferry, Ohio.
The Warwood Tool Company's Journey
In 1892, Daniel L. Heiskell bought the Warwood Tool Company. He moved the company to a new spot. This new location was about four miles north of Wheeling. The Warwood Tool Company is still in business today!
People and History
In the early 1900s, many people came to Warwood from other countries. A large number of these immigrants were from Greece. Most of them came from a Greek island called Karpathos. They moved to Warwood to find work in the local coal mines.

One well-known person who grew up in Warwood is John G. Panagiotou. His family came from Karpathos. He is famous for his work as a Greek Orthodox theologian. A theologian is someone who studies religion.
Geography and Nature
Warwood is also home to a small stream called Glenns Run. This stream flows through the area. It eventually joins the larger Ohio River.
