Washington is a small community in Wood County, West Virginia, United States. It is located right next to the Ohio River. This area is part of the larger Parkersburg-Marietta-Vienna region.
In 2010, about 1,175 people lived in Washington. The community was named after George Washington, a very important historical figure. Washington is home to a big factory called Washington Works. This is one of the largest places where the company Chemours makes chemicals. Other companies like Sabic Plastics, Kuraray, and Linde also have factories in Washington.

George Washington's Land
The marker explains that George Washington received a large piece of land here. This happened on December 15, 1772. He got 2,314 acres of land in an area called Washington Bottom. This land was given to him by John Murray, Earl of Dunmore. He was the last Royal Governor of Virginia.
How Washington Got the Land
George Washington received this land because of his service in the French and Indian War. The land was surveyed, or measured, by William Crawford in June 1771. This land stretches for about five miles along the Ohio River. The marker was put up by the State of West Virginia in 1932.
