Waun Camddwr is a mountain peak located in the southern part of the beautiful Snowdonia National Park in Gwynedd, Wales. It's considered a "top" of the larger Aran Fawddwy mountain. This means it's a high point connected to a main mountain.
Exploring Waun Camddwr
Waun Camddwr stands at 622 meters (about 2,041 feet) above sea level. It's found on a wide, wet, and boggy area. This area is nestled between the higher peaks of Aran Fawddwy and Glasgwm.
What Makes Waun Camddwr Special?
Waun Camddwr is listed as a "Nuttall". Nuttalls are mountains in England and Wales that are at least 2,000 feet (610 meters) high. They also need to have a certain amount of "prominence." Prominence means how much a peak rises above the land around it. Waun Camddwr was surveyed after the first list of Nuttalls was made. It was found to be just high enough and prominent enough to be included!
The Summit Area
The very top of Waun Camddwr is a rocky spot. It's surrounded by a mix of plants like heather, long grasses, and peat bog. Peat bog is a type of wetland with lots of decaying plant matter. South of the summit, you'll find another area called Gwaun y Llwyni.
