Galium glaucum, also known as waxy bedstraw, is a type of plant. It belongs to the Rubiaceae family, which is a large group of flowering plants. This plant is naturally found in central Europe, stretching all the way from Portugal to Ukraine. You can also find it growing in a few places in North America, like Quebec, Ontario, Connecticut, and New Jersey, where it has spread and started to grow on its own.
Different Kinds of Waxy Bedstraw
Scientists have found that there are three main types, or subspecies, of waxy bedstraw. These are slightly different versions of the same plant, often found in different areas.
- Galium glaucum subsp. australe Franco - This type grows in Spain and Portugal.
- Galium glaucum subsp. glaucum - This is the most common type, found from France all the way to Ukraine.
- Galium glaucum subsp. murcicum (Boiss. & Reut.) O.Bolòs & Vigo - You can find this subspecies in southeastern Spain.
