Wayland is a small village located in Steuben County, New York, United States. It's a friendly community nestled in the northern part of the Town of Wayland. In 2020, about 1,680 people lived there.

Village History

Wayland became an official village in 1877. It grew quite a bit after the Erie Railroad chose it as a station. This made Wayland an important stop for trains.

Wayland's Location and Area

Wayland is found at coordinates 42.568131 degrees north and -77.591854 degrees west. It covers a total area of about 1.0 square mile (2.7 square kilometers), and all of it is land.

The village is in the northwestern part of Steuben County. It's close to the border of Livingston County. You can find Wayland just north of Interstate 390. Several important roads meet here, including NY-15, NY-21, and NY-63.

Wayland also has a railroad line. It's the northern end of the B&H Rail Corporation's line. This line connects Wayland to Painted Post. Long ago, Wayland was a key stop for two major railroads. These were the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad and the Erie Railroad. Over time, parts of these lines were no longer used.
