Wenonah is a neighborhood located in the southeast part of Minneapolis, Minnesota. It's a friendly place bordered by 54th Street to the north and 34th Avenue to the east. To the south, you'll find the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, and to the west is Cedar Avenue. A cool part of Wenonah is that it includes a section of Lake Nokomis.

Wenonah is part of a larger group of 11 neighborhoods in Minneapolis called Nokomis. Imagine a rectangle that's about twice as wide as it is tall; that's roughly the shape of Wenonah. It stretches about 6,500 feet (1,981 meters) across and 3,000 feet (914 meters) from top to bottom.

What Are Wenonah's Borders?

The neighborhood's edges are clearly marked. To the north, it's 54th Street East. On the east side, you'll find 34th Avenue South. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport forms the southern border. Finally, Cedar Avenue is the western boundary. Most of Wenonah is north of Minnesota State Highway 62. However, a small part with 33 homes is south of the highway, connected by 28th Avenue South.

Wenonah and Lake Nokomis

A special feature of Wenonah is that it includes a piece of Lake Nokomis in its northwest corner. This lake is a popular spot for outdoor activities.

Neighboring Communities Around Wenonah

Wenonah shares its borders with three other neighborhoods. To the west is Diamond Lake. North of Wenonah, you'll find Keewaydin. To the east, it borders Morris Park. Wenonah also touches a corner with Minnehaha in the northeast.

These four neighborhoods—Keewaydin, Morris Park, Minnehaha, and Wenonah—are together known as Nokomis East. They are all supported by the Nokomis East Neighborhood Association (NENA). This group helps make the area a great place to live.

How Flat is Wenonah?

Wenonah is mostly a very flat area. The ground level is generally between 814 and 821 feet (248 and 250 meters) above sea level. The part of Lake Nokomis within Wenonah can be as deep as 30 feet (9 meters) below the surface.
