Wentworth Earl Miller III (born June 2, 1972) is an actor from both Britain and America. He is well known for playing Michael Scofield in the TV show Prison Break. For this role, he was nominated for a big award called the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Drama in 2005.
Wentworth also started writing movies. His first movie script was for the thriller film Stoker in 2013. Later, in 2014, he began playing a character named Leonard Snart, also known as Captain Cold, in the TV show The Flash. He then became a main actor in its spin-off show, Legends of Tomorrow.

Early Life and Education
Growing Up in England and America
Wentworth Miller was born in Chipping Norton, England. His parents were American. His mother, Roxann, was a special education teacher. His father, Wentworth E. Miller II, was a lawyer and teacher. At the time Wentworth was born, his father was studying at the University of Oxford.
When Wentworth was one year old, his family moved to Park Slope, Brooklyn, in the United States. He has two sisters named Leigh and Gillian.
School Days and College Life
Wentworth went to Midwood High School in Brooklyn. After high school, he attended Princeton University. He graduated in 1995 with a degree in English.
While at Princeton, he was part of an a cappella singing group called the Princeton Tigertones. He also joined some clubs on campus.
Acting Career Highlights
Starting in Hollywood
In 1995, Wentworth Miller moved to Los Angeles to become an actor. He has said that becoming a star was not easy. He faced many challenges and failures, but he felt he had to keep trying.
His first TV appearance was in 1998 on the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He played a student who turned into a sea monster.
First Big Roles
In 2002, Wentworth got his first main role in the ABC mini-series Dinotopia. He played a quiet character named David Scott.
He then acted in the 2003 movie The Human Stain. He played the younger version of the main character, Coleman Silk. He worked hard to prepare for this role, even training like a boxer for four months. In the same year, he had a small part in the movie Underworld.
Becoming Michael Scofield in Prison Break
In 2005, Wentworth Miller was chosen for the role of Michael Scofield in the TV drama Prison Break on the Fox Network. He played a very smart engineer who plans a detailed way to help his brother, Lincoln Burrows, escape from prison. His character had a huge tattoo covering his whole upper body. This special effects tattoo took over four hours to put on!
His acting in Prison Break earned him a nomination for a Golden Globe Award in 2005. The show ran for four seasons until 2009. Then, a new nine-episode fifth season was released in April 2017, and Wentworth played Michael Scofield again.
Music Videos and Other TV Shows
Wentworth also appeared in two Mariah Carey music videos in 2005. He was a party guest in "It's Like That" and Mariah Carey's love interest in "We Belong Together". The director of these videos also directed the first episode of Prison Break.
He also guest-starred in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2009. In 2010, he played Chris Redfield in the movie Resident Evil: Afterlife, which is based on a popular video game series.
Writing Movies
Wentworth Miller wrote the script for the 2013 film Stoker. He also wrote a story that happened before Stoker, called Uncle Charlie. He used a different name, Ted Foulke, for his writing at first. He said he wanted the scripts to be judged on their own, without knowing he wrote them.
Stoker is about a teenage girl who meets a mysterious uncle after her father passes away. Wentworth described it as a "horror film, a family drama and a psychological thriller." The movie was directed by Park Chan-wook and starred Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, and Matthew Goode. Critics generally liked the film.
In 2016, Wentworth also wrote the screenplay for the horror film The Disappointments Room.
Joining the Arrowverse
In July 2014, it was announced that Wentworth Miller would join The CW superhero show The Flash. He played Leonard Snart, also known as Captain Cold. He first appeared in the fourth episode of the first season. He then played this role again in Legends of Tomorrow. These shows brought him back together with his Prison Break co-star, Dominic Purcell.
Wentworth left Legends of Tomorrow as a regular actor after the first season. However, he signed a deal to keep playing Captain Cold in different shows within the Arrowverse.
In 2020, Wentworth shared that he would no longer play characters who are not like him in real life. Because of this, he would not be part of a sixth season of Prison Break if it were made.
In 2023, Wentworth narrated the audiobook for the 1995 book Prayers for Bobby. In 2024, it was reported that he would work with Dominic Purcell again on a new show called Snatchback.
Personal Life and Advocacy
Wentworth Miller lives in Vancouver, Canada. He is a citizen of both the United States and the United Kingdom.
In August 2013, Wentworth openly shared about his identity. He declined an invitation to a film festival in Russia. He explained that he was upset by how the Russian government treated its gay citizens. He wrote that he could not support an event in a country where people like him were not allowed to live and love openly.
At an event in 2013, Wentworth talked about facing challenges when he was younger. He also shared how being part of a community group helped him.
On October 17, 2016, a mental health charity called Active Minds announced that Wentworth would be an ambassador for their organization. In a Facebook post in 2016, he shared that he had struggled with sadness since he was a child. He said it was a battle that cost him time and opportunities. He made this post after seeing a picture of himself that made fun of his weight gain in 2010. Wentworth explained that he gained weight because he found comfort in food during a difficult time. He also provided links to organizations that help with mental health.
On July 27, 2021, Wentworth shared on Instagram that he had been diagnosed with autism a year before. He wrote that this is a part of who he is and everything he has achieved.
