West Canton is a small community in Haywood County, North Carolina, in the United States. It's called a "census-designated place" (CDP) because the U.S. Census Bureau collects information about it, even though it's not an official town. In 2010, about 1,247 people lived here. West Canton is also part of the larger Asheville area.

West Canton's Location and Rivers
West Canton is found in the eastern part of Haywood County. The town of Canton is right next to it on the east side.
Main Roads and Nearby Cities
Two important roads, U.S. Routes 19 and 23, run along the southern edge of West Canton. These roads can take you to other places.
If you go west on these roads for about 5 miles (8 km), you'll reach Lake Junaluska. If you head east through Canton for about 20 miles (32 km), you'll get to Asheville. Waynesville, which is the main town for Haywood County, is about 10 miles (16 km) southwest.
Land and Water Features
According to the United States Census Bureau, West Canton covers about 1.4 square miles (3.6 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the community.
The Pigeon River flows along the northern edge of West Canton. This river flows west and is part of the larger Tennessee River system.

In 2000, there were 1,156 people living in West Canton. These people lived in 488 households, and 339 of these were families. The community had about 841 people per square mile (325 people per square kilometer).
