The West Pomeranian Voivodeship (say "voy-voh-DEH-ship") is a special region in northwestern Poland. It is like a large province or state. Its main city and capital is Szczecin.
This region was created on January 1, 1999. It is located along the beautiful Baltic Sea coast. This means it has many sandy beaches, clear lakes, and green woodlands.
Some of the most important port cities here are Szczecin, Świnoujście, and Police. Other popular towns along the seaside include Międzyzdroje, Dziwnów, Kołobrzeg, and Mielno. These places are great for holidays and enjoying the coast!
Nature and Protected Areas
The West Pomeranian Voivodeship is known for its amazing nature. It has many areas that are protected to keep them safe and beautiful. These places are perfect for exploring and seeing wildlife.
There are two National Parks and seven Landscape Parks in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. National Parks are the most protected areas. Landscape Parks also protect nature but allow more activities.
Here are some of these special protected areas:
- Drawno National Park (partly in other regions like Lubusz and Greater Poland Voivodeship)
- Wolin National Park (This park is on an island and has cliffs and forests!)
- Barlinek-Gorzów Landscape Park (partly in Lubusz Voivodeship)
- Cedynia Landscape Park
- Drawsko Landscape Park
- Ińsko Landscape Park
- Lower Odra Valley Landscape Park
- Szczecin Landscape Park
- Ujście Warty Landscape Park (partly in Lubusz Voivodeship)
These parks help protect the unique plants and animals that live in this part of Poland.
