Weston Lakes is a city in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. It is part of the larger Greater Houston area. People living in Weston Lakes voted to make their community an official city in an election held on May 10, 2008. When it became a city, about 2,300 people lived there. By the year 2020, the population had grown to 3,853 residents.

Where is Weston Lakes Located?

Weston Lakes is found along FM 1093. It sits between the cities of Fulshear and Simonton in the northern part of Fort Bend County. The city covers an area of about 1,400 acres.

The U.S. Census Bureau says the city has a total area of 7.1 square kilometers. Most of this, about 6.9 square kilometers, is land. The rest, 0.2 square kilometers, is water. The Brazos River forms the southern and part of the eastern edge of the city.

How Weston Lakes Became a City

Fort Bend County has been growing very fast, especially the nearby city of Fulshear. Some people in Weston Lakes felt that becoming an official city was the best way to keep Fulshear or other towns from taking over their community.

The vote to become a city happened on May 10, 2008. Out of 977 votes, 569 people (58.24%) voted yes. Only 408 people (41.76%) voted no. Many people participated in the vote, with over 74% of eligible voters casting their ballots.

On May 20, 2008, the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court officially recorded the election results. This made Weston Lakes an official city.

After the vote, some people disagreed with the decision. They filed a lawsuit, saying the vote had problems. They claimed there were issues with Texas laws and policies, and also with how the county government and the Weston Lakes Property Owners Association acted.

The first election for city leaders took place on November 4, 2008. Fifteen people ran for six positions called Alderman. Mary Rose Zdunkewicz became the city's first mayor. She had lived in Weston Lakes for 21 years and had served on the Lamar Consolidated ISD school board before. She received the most votes (561).

Five other people became Aldermen on the city council. They were Clifton H. Aldrich (504 votes), Gary L. Owens (486 votes), Denis Deluca (472 votes), Trent Thomas (435 votes), and Ted Case II (419 votes). The position of city marshal was won by Ron Horowitz, who ran without anyone else against him.

Students in Weston Lakes attend schools that are part of the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District.

  • Middle school students attend Leaman Junior High (6th to 8th grade).
  • High school students go to Fulshear High School (9th to 12th grade).

Weston Lakes students used to go to Foster High School.

There is also a private school nearby called Simonton Christian Academy, located in Simonton.
