Westringia is a group of plants, also known as a genus, made up of many different types of shrubs. These plants are native to Australia. They belong to the mint family, just like the mint you might know!
Like other plants in the mint family, Westringia flowers have a special shape. Their top petal, which looks like a lip, is split into two parts. Each flower has four stamens, which are the parts that produce pollen. The two upper stamens are fertile, meaning they can help make seeds. The two lower ones are smaller and don't produce pollen; these are called staminodes. The leaves of Westringia plants usually grow in circles around the stem, with either three or four leaves in each circle.
You can find Westringia plants growing naturally in all six states of Australia. They also grow on Norfolk Island. However, they are not found in the Northern Territory.
