Westville is a town located in Indiana, a state in the United States. It's part of LaPorte County, specifically in New Durham Township. In 2020, about 5,257 people lived there.

Westville is also part of a larger area called the Michigan City, Indiana-La Porte, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's connected to nearby cities for things like jobs and economy. The town is found in Northwest Indiana, which people sometimes call The Region.

History of Westville

Westville was officially planned out in 1851. It became an incorporated town in 1864. In its early days, it was an important stop and shipping spot because two railroads met there.

A brave chaplain named Rev. John Milton Whitehead lived in Westville. He joined the 15th Indiana Infantry Regiment during a war. He earned the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Stones River. He helped many wounded soldiers by carrying them to safety all by himself.

The Everel S. Smith House, an important old building in Westville, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. This list helps protect special historical places.
