White Breast Creek is a cool stream in Iowa. It's like a smaller river that flows into a bigger one, the Des Moines River. This creek is about 91.3 miles (147 km) long! It starts near a town called Osceola and winds its way northeast. Finally, it reaches Lake Red Rock, where it joins the Des Moines River.
Meet the Tributaries
White Breast Creek has many smaller streams that flow into it. These are called tributaries. They add water to the main creek.
- The first big tributary is South White Breast Creek. It joins from the left side of White Breast Creek. South White Breast Creek even has its own tiny streams, like Hoosier Creek and Little Hoosier Creek. These are found in Clarke County.
- Brush Creek flows into White Breast Creek from the right side. You can find it south of Lucas. This area is part of the Stephens State Forest Wildlife Management Area.
- Indian Creek also joins White Breast Creek from the left side.
- Little White Breast Creek enters from the right side. This creek starts from two small lakes, Lake Morris and Lake Ellis, near Chariton.
- Next, three more streams join from the left side: Barker Creek, Stoney Creek, and Cotton Creek. They all meet White Breast Creek near Lacona.
- Wolf Creek and its smaller stream, Flank Creek, join from the left side. They meet White Breast Creek a few miles west of Dallas. Near Dallas, the creek has a large flat area next to it called a floodplain. This area often gets covered with water when the creek overflows.
- Hawk Run is the last important tributary. It flows into White Breast Creek near Lake Red Rock, also from the left side.
