The Whitefish River is a cool river in Ontario, Canada. It flows through the Sudbury District in northeastern Ontario. This river is a branch, or tributary, of the huge Lake Huron.
The River's Journey
The Whitefish River starts its journey at Daisy Lake. This lake is located in the city of Greater Sudbury. From there, the river flows through several other lakes. These include Richard, McFarlane, and Long Lakes.
Next, the river reaches a place called Eden township. Here, it flows into Round Lake. This lake is part of the Whitefish Lake Ojibwa reserve. After Round Lake, the river continues its path into Lake Panache.
Near the western end of Lake Panache, the river flows into Walker Lake. It then moves through Little Bear Lake and Plunge Lake. These lakes are along the edge of Killarney Lakelands and Headwaters Provincial Park. When Plunge Lake joins Hannah Lake, the river turns west. It then enters Lang Lake.
The Howry Creek system joins the Whitefish River as a tributary. This happens near the Whitefish River reserve. After this, the river flows into Charlton Lake. At Willisville, the Cranberry River system also flows into the Whitefish River.
The river then flows a short distance more. It takes in the West River as another tributary. Finally, it reaches Whitefish Falls. Here, the Whitefish River ends its journey at the Bay of Islands. This bay is on the North Channel of Lake Huron.
