William Ashe Dymoke Windham (born April 2, 1926 – died January 5, 2021) was a British rower. He was a talented athlete who competed for Great Britain in the 1952 Summer Olympics.

William Windham's Rowing Career
William Windham was born in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. He went to Bedford School and then to Christ's College, Cambridge University.
University and Early Success
While at Cambridge, William was a key member of the university's rowing team. He helped the Cambridge boat win the famous the Boat Race twice. These wins happened in 1947 and again in 1951.
International Competitions
William Windham represented England at the Empire Games in 1950. He won a bronze medal in rowing at this event.
He also competed for Great Britain in the European Rowing Championships. In 1950, he earned another bronze medal. The next year, in 1951, he achieved a great victory, winning a gold medal at the European Championships.
His skills led him to the biggest stage in sports. William represented Great Britain at the 1952 Summer Olympics.
Life After Competing
After his competitive rowing days, William stayed involved with the sport. In 1953, he became a Steward of the Henley Royal Regatta. This meant he helped organize and manage this very famous rowing event. He was part of the management committee for many years, from 1972 to 1994.
William Windham passed away on January 5, 2021, at the age of 94. His son, Ashe Windham, is also well-known.
