William A. Wrigley III (born January 21, 1933 – died March 8, 1999) was a very important leader of the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company. This famous company makes chewing gum. William Wrigley III was the president of the company from 1961 until he passed away in 1999.

His grandfather, William Wrigley Jr., started the company. William's father, P. K. Wrigley, was president before him. After William Wrigley III died, his son, Bill Wrigley Jr., took over as president and CEO.

William Wrigley III also owned the Chicago Cubs baseball team starting in 1977. He later sold the team in 1981 to the Chicago Tribune.

Leading the Wrigley Company

When William Wrigley III became president in 1961, he helped the Wrigley Company stay the biggest chewing gum maker in the world. He did this by introducing many new and popular gum brands.

New Gum Brands

Under his leadership, the company launched several well-known chewing gums. These included Orbit, Freedent, Extra, Hubba Bubba, and Big Red. These new products helped the company grow even more.

His Life and Family

William Wrigley III went to Yale College and graduated in 1954. While he was there, he was a manager for the Yale football team.

He was married three times and had three children. His children are Alison Elizabeth, Philip Knight, and William Jr.
