Wilmington is a small village in the state of Vermont, United States. It's the main community within the larger town of Wilmington. This village is located in Windham County.
In 2020, about 439 people lived in Wilmington village. The entire town of Wilmington had a population of 2,255 people. The very center of the village is known as the Wilmington Village Historic District. This means it has special old buildings and places that are important to history.
Where is Wilmington?
Wilmington village is in the southwestern part of Windham County. It sits right in the middle of the town of Wilmington. The village is on the east side of the famous Green Mountains.
Rivers and Water
Wilmington is in a valley. A river called the North Branch of the Deerfield River flows through it. This river eventually joins the main Deerfield River. It flows into the north end of Harriman Reservoir. All the water in this area eventually flows into the Connecticut River.
Getting Around Wilmington
Two important roads meet in Wilmington. Vermont Route 9 is one of them. It's also known as East and West Main Street in the village. This road goes east about 19 miles (31 km) to Brattleboro. If you go west on Route 9, you'll reach Bennington in about 20 miles (32 km).
The other main road is Vermont Route 100. It's called North Main Street in Wilmington. Route 100 goes north from the village center. It leads about 8 miles (13 km) to Dover. Route 100 also joins Route 9 for a short distance when leaving Wilmington to the east. Then, it turns south and goes about 5 miles (8 km) to Jacksonville.
