Wilmot is a small city located in Roberts County, South Dakota, in the United States. In 2020, about 432 people lived there.

Wilmot's History

Wilmot got its name from Wilmot Brookings. He was an important leader who helped govern the Dakota Territory a long time ago. Another city, Brookings, was also named after him.

The town of Wilmot and its post office were officially started in 1881. This happened after many years when people from Norway moved to the area. They came to claim land through the Homestead Acts.
