In 2020, about 1,567 people lived in Wilson. This was a small increase from 1,482 people in 2010. Wilson is part of the larger Jackson area.
The town of Wilson was started in 1889. It was named after Elijah Nicholas Wilson. He was famous for living with the Shoshone Native Americans as a boy in the 1850s. Elijah Wilson wrote a book called The White Indian Boy about his adventures. He even rode for the Pony Express! Wilson is located at the bottom of Teton Pass, just west of Jackson, along State Highway 22.
