History of Wilton

For many years, people talked about building a second airport for Sydney. In 1986, a government group suggested Wilton or Badgerys Creek as good spots. The federal government at the time chose Badgerys Creek.

Later, in 2012, some leaders, like the Minister for Transport, Anthony Albanese, and the CEO of Qantas, Alan Joyce, thought Wilton would be a good place for the airport. However, the NSW Premier, Barry O'Farrell, did not agree. In 2014, the Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, confirmed that Sydney's second airport would be at Badgerys Creek.

Around the 2000s, a company called Lendlease started building the Bingara Gorge community in Wilton. By early 2023, Wilton had about 5,000 people living there. The town is expected to grow a lot, possibly reaching 55,000 people by 2040. Different developers are working together to build new homes and facilities in Wilton.
