The Windham Town Hall is an important building in Willimantic, Windham, Connecticut. It serves as the main office for the local government. This historic building helps the town run smoothly every day.

History of the Town Hall
The Windham Town Hall was built in 1896. It was first used for two important purposes. It housed the Windham County Courthouse and the Willimantic City Government. Before this building existed, the local government worked from a rented space.
The building is very strong and impressive. It was made using 1.25 million bricks! Building it cost about $73,000 back then. That would be like $2 million today. A large clock was also added, which was a gift from a person named James Hayden.
In 1915, a very special visitor came to the building. President William Howard Taft himself visited the Windham Town Hall. The building's design was created by Warren Richard Briggs. He was an architect who had designed other similar courthouses in Connecticut.
Over the years, many different groups used the building. It held county courtrooms and the Willimantic city government. A local group called the Grand Army of the Republic also met there. And of course, the Town of Windham government used it too.
Recent Changes to the Building
In 1977, some of the groups moved out. The police station, the county courthouse, and the city library all found new homes. This made more space for other town services.
The building became part of the Main Street Historic District in 1982. This district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Being on this list means the building is important for its history and architecture.
A big change happened in 1983. The city of Willimantic became a "CDP." This means it's now a smaller part of the larger Town of Windham. Because of this, the city hall officially became the town hall for Windham.
What the Town Hall Looks Like
The Windham Town Hall is a large building. It is built in a style called Romanesque Revival. This style often uses round arches and strong, heavy stone or brick.
A tall, green clock tower sits on top of the building. This tower makes the building about 50 feet high. The town hall has three stories inside. These floors hold the offices for the Town of Windham's government.
Outside the building, there is a green area. A staircase leads from the street up to the main entrance. This makes the building look grand and welcoming.
