Window Rock High School is a public high school located in Fort Defiance, Arizona. This community is in Apache County, Arizona. Window Rock High School is the only high school in the Window Rock Unified School District.
The school district, and therefore the high school, serves several communities nearby. These include Fort Defiance, Oak Springs, St. Michaels, Window Rock, and most of Sawmill.
School History
The school district first opened in the mid-1950s. High school students started attending about two years later. The very first students graduated in 1958 and 1959. The main school building was finished in 1960.
Sadly, a big fire destroyed the school in April 1981. This fire caused a lot of damage. A brand new school building was constructed later in that same decade.
