Winner is a city located in the middle of Tripp County, South Dakota, in the United States. In 2020, about 2,921 people lived there.
Winner is the main city, or county seat, for Tripp County. It also helps manage things for Todd County nearby, because Todd County doesn't have its own main city. The closest airport is the Winner Regional Airport.
The city was started in 1909. It got its name because it became the most successful trading spot in the area, like a "winner"!

About Winner, South Dakota
A famous baseball player named Jim Palmer once played in Winner. He was a pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles and is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame. He played for a college team in Winner during the summer of 1963.
Palmer remembered Winner as a small town. He said there were about 2,500 people, only a few restaurants, one movie theater, and no TV or air conditioning back then. He also mentioned it was often very hot!

Winner is in the south-central part of South Dakota. The city covers an area of about 2.20 square miles (5.70 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
