Winnie-the-Pooh Meets the Queen is a children's book from 2016. It was also released as an e-book called Winnie-the-Pooh and the Royal Birthday. This special book was created to celebrate the 90th birthdays of two famous figures. Both the beloved character Winnie-the-Pooh and Queen Elizabeth II turned 90 in 2016.

The Queen's actual birthday is April 21, 1926. However, her official public birthday celebration happens on June 11. The very first Winnie-the-Pooh book, written by A. A. Milne, came out in October 1926. This new story imagines what would happen if Pooh met Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace. Jane Riordan wrote the story. The pictures were drawn by Mark Burgess. He made them look like the original drawings by E. H. Shepard.

About the Book

This section tells you more about how the book came to be.

How the Story Started

The story first came out as an audio and video download. The actor Jim Broadbent read the story aloud. He said he had loved Winnie-the-Pooh since he was a boy. He even named his own teddy bear "Pooh." The printed book was released later, in November 2016.

Pooh and the Royal Family

Did you know that A. A. Milne had a connection to the Queen? In 1926, he dedicated a book of songs to the newborn Princess Elizabeth. This book was called "Teddy Bear and Other Songs." When she was a little girl, Princess Elizabeth also received a special tea set. It was hand-painted with pictures of Christopher Robin.

A digital e-book version was also released by Disney. In this version, Jane Riordan is not listed as the author.

What Happens in the Story

This part explains the main events of the book.

A Royal Birthday Present

The story begins with Christopher Robin telling his friends some big news. He tells Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, Tigger, and Kanga that Queen Elizabeth II is about to turn 90. The toys start talking about what kind of special gift they should give her.

Pooh comes up with a lovely idea: a "hum." Everyone agrees it would be a charming present.

Journey to London

Christopher Robin, Pooh, Piglet, and Eeyore decide to travel to London. They want to give the "hum" to the Queen in person. They take a bus from Victoria Station. On their way, they see famous London sights. These include Piccadilly and Trafalgar Square.

Meeting the Queen

When they arrive, the Queen happens to be out for a walk. She is right in front of Buckingham Palace. This gives Pooh the perfect chance to deliver his special "hum" to her.

A Royal Guest

This section talks about a special character who appears in the story.

Prince George's Appearance

Prince George of Cambridge makes an appearance in the story. Piglet gives him a red balloon. George is not called by his name in the book. Instead, he is described as "much younger than Christopher Robin." He is also said to be "almost as bouncy as Tigger."
