In 2020, about 3,455 people lived in Winnsboro. The city started to be settled in the 1850s. A post office was set up there between 1854 and 1855.

Winnsboro is found in the northeastern part of Wood County and the southwestern part of Franklin County. This area is known as Northeast Texas.
The city covers a total area of about 3.76 square miles (9.73 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 3.74 square miles (9.69 square kilometers), is land. A very small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.04 square kilometers), is water.
About three-quarters of Winnsboro, including its downtown area, is in Wood County. The rest of the city is in Franklin County.
Main Roads in Winnsboro
Several important roads pass through Winnsboro. Texas State Highway 11 goes through the city as Broadway Street. This highway leads east to Pittsburg and northwest to Sulphur Springs.
Highway 37, also known as Main Street, crosses Highway 11 in the middle of town. Highway 37 goes north to Mount Vernon and southwest to Mineola. You can reach Tyler by taking Highway 37 south.
