Winston is a small village located in the southwestern part of Daviess County, Missouri, in the United States. In 2020, about 229 people lived there. It's a quiet community with a rich history.

History of Winston, Missouri
Winston started out with a different name! When the railroad was built through the area in 1871, it was first called Crofton's Depot. This was a busy spot where trains would stop.
Over time, the village's name changed a few times. It was also known as "Winstonville" and "Emporia." The name "Winston" came from F. K. Winston, who was an important official for the railroad.
A post office opened in 1872 under the name Winstonville. It changed to Emporia in 1879, and then finally became Winston in 1885. The old railroad depot in Winston has a famous story connected to the James-Younger Gang, a group known for their daring actions in the Old West.
Geography and Location
Winston is found in the southwest part of Daviess County. It sits right on US Route 69, which is a main road.
If you travel about ten miles east on Route 69, you'll reach Gallatin. If you go ten miles southwest, you'll find Cameron. These nearby towns help connect Winston to other areas.
The United States Census Bureau says that Winston covers a total area of about 0.31 square miles (0.80 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.
Winston's Climate and Weather
Winston has a type of weather called a humid continental climate. This means it has four distinct seasons. Winters are usually very cold and can have a lot of snow. Summers are warm to hot, and they can be quite wet and humid. Many summer storms bring rain.
The hottest temperature ever recorded in Winston was 106°F (41°C) on August 19, 2003. The coldest temperature was a chilly −23°F (−31°C) on December 23, 1989.
On average, temperatures drop below freezing (32°F or 0°C) about 100 days each year. Very cold temperatures, below 0°F (−18°C), happen about 7 days a year. In summer, temperatures reach 90°F (32°C) or higher about 24 days a year, and they can go over 100°F (38°C) about four days a year.

Population in 2010
According to the census from 2010, there were 259 people living in Winston. These people made up 95 households, and 69 of those were families.
The village had about 835.5 people per square mile. There were 111 housing units, which are homes or apartments.
Most of the people in the village (97.3%) were White. A small number were African American (1.2%) or Native American (0.4%). Some people were from other races or mixed races. About 0.8% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
In the 95 households, 40% had children under 18 living there. Almost half (49.5%) were married couples. Some households had a single parent, either a mother (11.6%) or a father (11.6%). About 27.4% were non-family households, meaning people living alone or with roommates.
The average household had 2.73 people, and the average family had 3.04 people. The median age in the village was 35.5 years old. About 30.9% of residents were under 18. About 11.6% were 65 years old or older. The population was almost evenly split between males (50.6%) and females (49.4%).
