Wish Films facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Wish Films is a company that makes animated and live-action TV shows. It was started in 2006 by Will Brenton and Iain Lauchlan. Before Wish Films, they had another company called Tell-Tale Productions, which began in 1994. Tell-Tale first made live stage shows, then started making TV shows too.

Many of the shows made by Tell-Tale Productions are now owned by a big company called NBCUniversal, through DreamWorks Animation. However, the popular show Tweenies is owned by BBC Studios. NBCUniversal has owned the rights to Boo! since 2003, and most of the other Tell-Tale shows since 2016.

History

Tell-Tale Productions

Tell-Tale Productions was busy making new shows. In 2001, they made a deal with Gullane Entertainment to create two new shows called Ella and Sprogs.

In 2002, the BBC decided to broadcast Boo! in the UK starting in September 2003. Later that year, Universal Pictures gained the rights to share Boo! with audiences all over the world.

Also in 2002, Tell-Tale announced a new animated series called WARP. Around the same time, the rights for Ella and Sprogs returned to Tell-Tale. This happened because Gullane Entertainment was bought by another company, HIT Entertainment. Tell-Tale also started working on two special Tweenies movies for home video.

In 2003, the company made a deal with LMI for Sprogs. They also worked with BBC Music to create music for the show. Sprogs was planned to air in early 2004.

In 2004, Carlton International got the rights to distribute Sprogs. They bought the rights for home video everywhere except the US and French-speaking areas. They also got TV rights worldwide, except for the UK, US, and French and German-speaking areas. CBBC also bought the rights to show Sprogs in the UK, planning to broadcast it in late 2004.

In September 2004, Entertainment Rights announced they would buy Tell-Tale Productions. This deal cost £3.1 million. The purchase included the rights to Sprogs, which was renamed BB3B. BB3B was set to be shown on CBBC in late 2005. The deal also included rights to a new version of Fun Song Factory for CITV. The Tweenies show remained with BBC Worldwide, but Entertainment Rights would get some money from its sales. The purchase was completed in October 2004.

In December 2005, ITV bought the rights to broadcast Jim Jam and Sunny. This show was planned to start production in 2006 and air on the new CITV Channel. This was a very big deal for ITV's children's programming.

Wish Films

In 2006, Will Brenton and Iain Lauchlan bought back their company, but not all of its old shows. They renamed it Wish Films. Wish Films then continued making Jim Jam and Sunny, which premiered on CITV later that year.

In 2008, Wish Films worked with a Canadian company called 9 Story Entertainment to create Wibbly Pig. This TV show was based on the popular children's book by Mick Inkpen. 9 Story Entertainment handled distribution in North and South America, while BBC Worldwide handled it everywhere else.

In 2010, CBeebies asked Wish Films to create a new show for their summer schedule. This show was called Mighty-Mites and was presented by Sarah-Jane Honeywell.

Wish Films also produced other shows during this time. These included Florrie's Dragons, which was made with Studio 100 and Clockwork Zoo. Another show was Melody, created with LAAH Entertainment.
