William Brenton is a British writer, producer, and director who has created many popular television shows and theatre productions. He is especially known for his work in children's television.

Will Brenton started two companies, Tell-Tale Productions and Wish Films, with his friend Iain Lauchlan. Together, they were nominated for six BAFTA awards, which are very important awards for TV and film. They won a BAFTA in 2000 for a pre-school live action show.

Early Career and Famous Shows

Will and Iain first met as presenters on the BBC children's show Playdays. They presented the "Tent Stop" part of the show. After that, they started writing and performing in pantomimes at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. They did this from 1991 to 2000. These pantomimes are still performed across the UK today.

During this time, they created and produced many well-loved children's TV shows. These include The Tweenies, Fun Song Factory, Boo!, and BB3B. Later, with their company Wish Films, they also created Jim Jam and Sunny for ITV.

Directing and Writing

Will Brenton has also directed shows for older audiences, like Coronation Street and Emmerdale in the 1990s.

In 2010, he helped write and direct a very successful live tour for Doctor Who. The show was called The Monsters Are Coming. It starred Nigel Planer and featured a sixteen-piece rock band playing music by Murray Gold. The tour played in big arenas all over the UK.

Will has also written children's books. His first books, Claude and Elephant White, were released in 2011 and 2012.

Recent Projects

More recently, Will Brenton has continued to write and direct big live shows for arenas. These include CBeebies - Stars, Justin and Friends, and CBeebies - The Big Band. He has also written and directed live shows for The Hairy Bikers. He even directed David Hasselhoff in a production of Peter Pan at the Manchester Opera House.

In 2015, Will Brenton wrote and directed a new live show for Basil Brush. He also worked on the Justin and Friends - Mr Tumble's Circus arena tour.

He also helped create and produce Melody. This is a show for CBeebies about a girl who is partially-sighted. She imagines stories when she listens to classical music. A second series of Melody was made in 2014.

Wish Films After 2009

Iain Lauchlan left Wish Films in 2009. Will Brenton then ran the company with Helen Cadwallader. They produced a TV show based on Mick Inkpen's Wibbly Pig books. This show was nominated for a Gemini Award in Canada. They also produced a show based on An Vrombaut's Dear Dragon books, which aired on Disney Junior UK as Florrie's Dragons.
